Cupping

Cupping is a therapeutic method whereby suction is applied to the skin surface by attaching a small jar in which a vacuum is created. This vacuum produces a suction that sucks out the accumulated wind, damp, numbness or pain and therefore they are eliminated by the skin, directly, into the suctioning cup.

Cupping might be used by itself or in conjunction with needles, Moxa or massage.

For the respiratory system, cupping is good for cough, asthma, acute infection, catching a cold, smokers cough and allergies.

For the musculo-skeletal system, any tendon or bone pain, such as backache, sore legs, shoulder pain, twisted joints, sprains and strains cupping is very good to alleviate the congestion of energy accumulated. In this case, it is mostly used in conjunction with acupuncture.

Cupping is excellent for generalized pain and rheumatic ailments. It gets rid of excessive accumulation of energy in the small channels of the body. As if a swamp had been produced in your garden, cupping is the way to get rid of all that damp.

There are varieties of cupping: Dry, Wet and Sliding. Dry cupping is what is used most commonly. Wet cupping implies the use of a bleeding needle and then cupping is applied. This wet cupping is very effective for conditions where there is heat an accumulation of debris in the blood of that channel. Sliding cupping implies the use of suction of the skin through the sliding cup in order to eliminate the wind or pathogenic factor occupying a large area.
